What is the Masoretic Text?

The Masoretic Text (MT) was compiled and canonized between the 7th and 10th centuries A.D. by rabbinic scholars of the Pharisaic line — the same sect Christ rebuked for

“making the word of God of none effect through your tradition” (Mark 7:13)

The MT became the default Hebrew version of the Old Testament, eventually adopted for translations like the King James Version.

Yet, the MT diverges from older versions — especially the Septuagint (LXX), which predates it by over a thousand years, and the Samaritan Pentateuch, a preserved form of the Torah in paleo-Hebrew.

The most egregious mutilation appears in Genesis 5 and 11, the genealogical lists from Adam to Abraham.

New Testament Use of the Septuagint

Christ and the apostles quote from the Septuagint more than any other version.

From Matthew to Revelation, the inspired writers relied on a chronology not found in the Masoretic Text.

Why?

Because the Septuagint preserved the original Hebrew Vorlage — the true ancestral record.

the Samaritan Pentateuch.

Reviled by rabbinic scholars and largely ignored by the Church, this version of the Torah preserves a textual tradition that predates the Masoretic recension and matches strikingly with the Greek Septuagint in critical genealogical ages and chronologies.

Especially in Genesis 5 and 11 — the lifespans and generations between Adam and Abraham.

“begin to be a mighty one”

This is no ordinary phrasing.

The Hebrew word used is gibbor, often associated with warriors, champions — even giants.

The next verse intensifies the mystery:

But the phrase “before the LORD” implies defiance — a presence that stood against God. 

Nimrod was not hunting animals.

He was hunting

• power

Nimrod’s rise wasn’t righteous.

It was apostasy — veiled in charisma, empire-building, and spiritual sorcery.

The Tower of Babel was not merely a skyscraper of clay bricks.

It was a spiritual project, a portal, a counterfeit holy mountain designed to unite mankind under Nimrod’s rebellion against Heaven.

Its purpose was not height alone, but contact with the heavens — the summoning of power from Sheol.

Every ancient ziggurat was more than architecture.
