Those Days Shall Be Shortened: Time Perception, Eschatological Speculation & a Scriptural Examination of the 4chan “Bozrah” Theory

Abstract
On August 27–28, 2026, an anonymous discussion on 4chan’s /x/ board began with a deceptively simple question: Is time moving faster? What followed was not one theory but an escalating chain of explanations. Some participants suggested ordinary aging, attention, smartphones, information overload, or altered states of consciousness. Others argued that physical time itself has accelerated. The discussion then moved into biblical prophecy, claims that Matthew 24:22 predicted shortened seconds, accusations that Revelation was a Jesuit construction, and finally an elaborate cosmology in which a prior “rapture” transported selected people from Earth to a duplicate planet called Bozrah, where time supposedly runs fifty percent faster and a day therefore lasts only sixteen Earth-hours.
This paper examines the thread using several distinct methods rather than forcing every claim through a single filter. Psychological claims are compared with research on subjective time perception. Physical claims are compared with modern metrology, relativity, atomic timekeeping, and Earth-rotation measurements. Historical claims concerning Revelation and the Jesuits are tested against manuscript and publication evidence. The Hindu cosmological material is distinguished from biblical doctrine rather than blended with it. Finally, the relevant biblical passages are examined in their immediate and broader scriptural contexts using the King James Bible supplied for this study.
The central conclusion is straightforward. The thread begins with a real and well-documented human experience: the passage of time can feel dramatically faster or slower. But several participants move from that experience to increasingly specific claims about altered physical time without providing measurements capable of establishing such a change. The later “Bozrah planet” theory compounds the problem by taking genuine biblical terms—Bozrah, Edom, shortened days, day of vengeance, caught up—and placing between them a series of propositions that the biblical texts themselves never state.
The problem is therefore not that every observation in the thread is foolish. Quite the opposite. The thread is worth studying precisely because legitimate experiences, legitimate scientific vocabulary, legitimate historical facts, and legitimate Scriptures are gradually woven together into conclusions that the underlying evidence does not require.
1. Introduction: Beginning With the Question Rather Than the Conclusion
The original poster did not begin with Bozrah, Edom, a rapture, or an alternate planet. The initial observation was much more ordinary: many people seem to feel that the last decade or so has passed unusually quickly, with the effect becoming particularly noticeable during the last several years.
That experience should not be dismissed.
Most adults have experienced some version of it. A childhood summer can seem enormous in memory; several adult years may appear to collapse into one another. An afternoon spent waiting can drag, while hours spent absorbed in work, conversation, games, research, or travel can disappear almost unnoticed.
The mistake would be to assume that because the sensation is subjective, it is unreal.
Subjective experience is still real experience.
But a second mistake would be to assume that because the experience is real, the proposed explanation for it must also be real.
That distinction is the foundation of this paper.
If a person says, “The last five years felt much faster than the five years before them,” the experience itself cannot reasonably be rebutted. The researcher’s question is different:
What caused that experience?
Possible answers include changes in attention, memory, age, novelty, stress, routine, digital behavior, cognitive workload, emotional state, neurological processing, or some combination of these.
A much stronger proposition would be:
Physical time itself has accelerated.
That is no longer merely a psychological statement. It is a claim about measurable reality.
Stronger still is the proposition eventually introduced in the thread:
The present planet is not Earth; it is Bozrah, its time runs fifty percent faster, its day is sixteen Earth-hours long, Earth is approximately 75,000 light-years away, and selected people were transported here in a previous rapture.
At that point the discussion has moved through at least four different evidentiary categories:
- subjective experience;
- psychology;
- physical science;
- biblical and eschatological interpretation.
The categories cannot simply be collapsed into one another.
That is also consistent with the VCG research standard used for this investigation: separate the original statement from what is being communicated, distinguish historical, biblical, linguistic, scientific, psychological, logical, and methodological analysis, and separate fact from interpretation and speculation.
2. Methodology: How This Paper Tests the Thread
This investigation uses a deliberately layered method.
2.1 Primary-source reconstruction
The 4chan thread itself is treated as the primary source for what the posters actually claimed. The paper does not assume that every participant agreed with every other participant. In fact, one of the most important features of the discussion is that skeptics inside the thread often identify weaknesses in the stronger claims before the later cosmological theory appears.
The later Bozrah narrative also appears outside this particular thread. Substantially the same distinctive cluster—another planet, Edomite containment, a prior rapture, and an Earth roughly 75,000 light-years away—appeared previously in an online post elsewhere and in other /x/ discussions.
That does not make the theory true or false by itself. It does, however, matter when evaluating apparent corroboration. Repetition of the same narrative across several websites does not constitute several independent discoveries if the posts reproduce the same originating claim.
2.2 Scientific claims
Claims about physical time are compared against internationally defined time standards, atomic-clock experiments, and Earth-orientation measurements.
The present SI second is defined by fixing the cesium-133 hyperfine transition frequency at exactly 9,192,631,770 Hz.
Modern relativity experiments compare high-precision clocks subject to differences in velocity or gravitational potential. NIST researchers have measured relativistic effects arising from velocities below 10 m/s and elevation differences of less than one meter.
Earth rotation is independently monitored by the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service. Its datasets track UT1, length-of-day offsets, pole motion, and related Earth-orientation parameters.
These provide reference standards far more precise than human counting.
2.3 Psychological claims
The paper uses peer-reviewed research on:
prospective versus retrospective duration judgment;
aging and subjective passage of time;
cognitive workload;
attention;
motivation;
boredom;
and digital activity.
This is important because “time feels faster” is primarily a psychological observation until evidence demonstrates otherwise.
2.4 Historical claims
Statements about Revelation and the Jesuits are evaluated using manuscript evidence and dated publications.
A third-century Greek manuscript of Revelation, Papyrus 47, survives today in the Chester Beatty Library.
The Society of Jesus was formally recognized in 1540.
Francisco Ribera, a Jesuit, really did publish a commentary on Revelation in the late sixteenth century; a 1591 edition survives.
These facts allow us to separate genuine history from anachronism.
2.5 Scripture
The King James Bible supplied for this study is treated as the primary English biblical text. The guiding principle is not
“find a verse that sounds similar,”
but context before commentary and Scripture compared with Scripture.
Acts 17 gives an appropriate model. The Bereans received what they heard seriously, but also
“searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
That combination—willingness to listen and willingness to test—is the posture this paper attempts to maintain.
3. How the Thread Develops
It helps to see the conversation as an escalation rather than as one coherent doctrine.
The thread moves through roughly six stages:
Stage One: a subjective report that recent years seem unusually fast.
Stage Two: ordinary explanations such as aging, perception, attention, and cognitive states.
Stage Three: metaphysical interpretations concerning consciousness and Hindu cyclical cosmology.
Stage Four: attempts to demonstrate physical acceleration by counting seconds informally.
Stage Five: biblical and conspiratorial explanations involving Matthew 24, Revelation, social control, timelines, and Jesuit influence.
Stage Six: the full Bozrah narrative: a past rapture, a duplicate planet, fifty-percent-faster time, altered human anatomy, a sixteen-hour day, Edomite containment, and Earth located approximately 75,000 light-years away.
The progression matters.
Many of the later conclusions gain rhetorical strength from the fact that the thread began with something nearly everyone recognizes.
The reader thinks:
“Yes, time really does seem faster.”
The danger is allowing that agreement to carry over unconsciously into:
“Therefore physical seconds have changed.”
and eventually:
“Therefore this is another planet.”
Those propositions require entirely different evidence.
4. The First Claim: Does Time Actually Feel Faster?
Yes.
That is the strongest point in the thread.
Psychological research has long shown that perceived duration is not a simple internal copy of clock time.
One especially important distinction is between prospective and retrospective duration judgments.
In a prospective task, a person knows beforehand that time will have to be judged. Attention can therefore be allocated toward timing.
In a retrospective task, a person learns afterward that the duration matters and must reconstruct the interval largely from memory.
A meta-analysis by Richard Block and Dan Zakay found meaningful differences between these two kinds of judgment. Prospective estimates are strongly influenced by attentional processing, whereas retrospective judgments depend more heavily upon memory and contextual information.
This immediately helps explain apparently contradictory experiences.
A boring twenty minutes can feel very long while it is happening because the person keeps monitoring the time.
An engaging two-hour activity can seem to vanish because attention is directed away from the passage of time.
Yet when looking back on an eventful trip filled with new places and experiences, the period may seem large in memory because many distinctive events were encoded.
Routine can produce the opposite retrospective effect. A month containing highly repetitive days may leave relatively few unique memory markers. Looking backward, the month can seem to have disappeared.
There is therefore no contradiction in saying:
A day can feel slow while an entire year feels fast.
That is one reason the thread’s opening observation deserves a psychological investigation before a cosmological one.
5. “Time Moves Faster as You Get Older”
Several posters offer aging as the explanation.
There is evidence for this, but the popular explanation is often stated too confidently.
Marc Wittmann and Sandra Lehnhoff studied 499 participants ranging from age fourteen to ninety-four. Their findings generally supported an association between age and reported acceleration of time, but the measured effects were only small to moderate and explained at most about ten percent of the variance. The researchers themselves cautioned against overly simple interpretations.
William Friedman and Steve Janssen later studied 1,865 adults between sixteen and eighty. They found that respondents across age groups commonly reported that time passed quickly. Contrary to the strongest popular form of the “aging theory,” age differences were generally small, with a more noticeable difference when participants evaluated the preceding ten years. Their findings gave substantial weight to time pressure as an explanatory factor.
This produces a more careful conclusion.
Aging probably contributes to the sensation for many people.
It does not explain everything.
The familiar argument that “one year is one-tenth of a ten-year-old’s life but only one-fiftieth of a fifty-year-old’s life” is mathematically correct. But mathematics alone does not establish that the brain literally calculates experienced duration according to that fraction.
The fraction-of-life explanation is an intuitive model.
It is not a complete psychological law.
So the posters who say “people are simply getting older” have identified a legitimate variable, but they have probably oversimplified its explanatory power.
6. Attention, Information Load, and the Feeling That Life Is Accelerating
Another poster attributes the phenomenon to the relentless arrival of new information.
This explanation deserves more attention than the thread gives it.
A meta-analysis covering 117 experiments found that cognitive load significantly affects duration judgments, with effects depending upon whether timing is prospective or retrospective. Under higher cognitive load, prospective subjective duration tends to decrease because attentional resources are being directed toward the task rather than toward time. Retrospective judgments behave differently because memory processes become more important.
This is precisely why modern life can produce unusual temporal experiences without requiring altered physical seconds.
A person moves between:
messages,
short videos,
news alerts,
work applications,
social media,
search results,
music,
advertisements,
emails,
conversations,
games,
and dozens of small tasks.
None of those events individually changes the cesium definition of a second.
But they can radically alter what is attended to, what is remembered, and how intervals are reconstructed afterward.
That distinction is essential.
7. Smartphones and Doomscrolling
One participant gives a blunt answer: smartphones and doomscrolling.
The chronology is at least worth considering.
Pew Research Center found that approximately 35 percent of U.S. adults owned smartphones in 2011. By 2025, that figure had risen to approximately 91 percent.
So the widespread adoption of smartphones genuinely overlaps the period in which many people report noticing accelerated subjective time.
Correlation is not causation, however.
A useful 2025 laboratory study examined ninety participants during a seven-and-a-half-minute interval. One group used smartphones, another performed Sudoku on paper, and a third simply waited. All groups underestimated the interval on average. The passive waiting group reported slower passage of time and greater boredom, while smartphone use and the non-digital active task produced more similar experiences.
This is an important correction to simplistic arguments on both sides.
The study does not show:
“smartphones uniquely cause time to accelerate.”
It does support something more nuanced:
Being cognitively engaged changes experienced duration.
A smartphone is extraordinarily effective at delivering continuous engagement, novelty, and attentional switching.
It is therefore entirely plausible that widespread digital behavior contributes to the modern feeling that hours disappear.
But that is psychological acceleration, not proof that the physical second has changed.
8. “Time Flies When You’re Having Fun”—But Not Quite That Simply
One poster reverses the familiar saying and suggests that unpleasant activity makes time fast while enjoyable activity slows it.
Experimental psychology does not support a simple pleasure-versus-pain rule.
Gable and Poole found that positive states characterized by strong approach motivation shortened perceived duration. The important variable was not merely pleasant emotion; motivational intensity influenced temporal judgment.
That helps explain why a highly engaging activity may appear to consume hours instantly.
Boredom often has the opposite effect because attention returns repeatedly to time itself.
Emotional arousal can complicate matters further.
The safer conclusion is therefore:
Subjective duration is influenced by attention, motivation, arousal, memory, cognitive load, and context.
Anyone offering a one-sentence universal law of psychological time should be treated cautiously.
9. The “Trance State” and the Claim of 7–10 Percent Time Dilation
One participant reports becoming absorbed in intensive study and experiencing what he calls local time dilation, estimated at seven to ten percent.
There are really two claims here.
The first is:
Deep absorption changed my perception of elapsed time.
That is plausible.
The second is:
I achieved 7–10 percent local time dilation.
That sounds scientific, but no measurement protocol is provided.
There is no documented baseline.
No repeated blinded trials are given.
No uncertainty range is calculated.
No independent observer is mentioned.
No clock comparison establishes physical dilation.
No statistical analysis is supplied.
The word dilation matters because in physics time dilation has a specific meaning.
NIST experiments test relativistic time dilation by comparing extremely precise clocks subject to known differences in motion or gravitational potential.
An altered state of concentration may produce an altered experience of duration.
Calling that relativistic “time dilation” imports a physical term into a psychological phenomenon.
The experience may be real.
The terminology is misleading.
10. The Crucial Methodological Turn: Counting “Mississippis”
The thread changes character when participants attempt to turn the subjective experience into a physical experiment.
The proposed procedure is familiar: count from one to ten using “Mississippi” between numbers and compare the counting interval with a digital clock.
At first this feels reasonable.
Children have been taught versions of this method for decades.
But what does the test actually measure?
It measures:
the current rate of a person’s speech/counting relative to a clock.
It does not measure whether universal physical time has accelerated.
The experiment lacks several essential controls.
There is no reliable historical recording of the participant’s speech rate decades earlier.
There is no standardized pronunciation.
There is no fixed cadence.
There is no blinded condition.
There is no population baseline.
Expectation can influence performance.
Practice can influence performance.
Speech tempo differs between individuals.
The term “naturally” is undefined.
One poster inside the thread notices exactly this problem and points out that the method is inconclusive because the participant’s “natural” rate is subjective.
That objection is correct.
11. The Deeper Problem: Faster Relative to What?
This is the most important scientific question in the entire discussion.
To say:
“Time is fifty percent faster”
is incomplete.
Faster relative to what?
In physics, meaningful claims of differential elapsed time require a comparison.
Relativity provides genuine examples.
Two clocks can accumulate different amounts of proper time if they follow different paths through spacetime or occupy different gravitational potentials.
That is not speculation. It is experimentally measurable. NIST has directly compared optical clocks and detected relativistic shifts arising from very small differences in elevation and motion.
But consider three different hypotheses that are repeatedly blurred in the thread.
Hypothesis A
Human biological processes are now running faster relative to atomic clocks.
That is testable.
Hypothesis B
Earth’s astronomical rotation has accelerated dramatically relative to atomic time.
That is also testable.
Hypothesis C
Every local physical process—atoms, neurons, electronics, bodies, clocks, chemical reactions, and Earth’s environment—has uniformly accelerated by the same factor.
A local person comparing a local brain with a local clock would not detect that merely by counting.
The thread does not consistently distinguish these possibilities.
One skeptical participant comes close to the core problem by asking why the clock would not also have accelerated.
That is not a trivial objection.
It is precisely the reference-frame issue that the proposed experiment must solve.
12. What Is a Second?
The modern second is not defined by human intuition.
The International Bureau of Weights and Measures defines the second through the cesium-133 atom. The specified transition frequency is exactly 9,192,631,770 cycles per second.
NIST explains the practical consequence plainly: atomic clocks count those oscillations to realize a stable interval.
Therefore, if somebody claims that what was formerly ten seconds has physically become fifteen seconds, the claim must eventually be expressed relative to a stable reference.
Does the cesium transition frequency differ?
Does Earth’s rotation differ relative to atomic time?
Do astronomical ephemerides disagree?
Do independent precision clocks disagree?
Does a clock transported between frames accumulate anomalous proper time?
These questions can be investigated.
“Count Mississippi and see whether it feels wrong” cannot resolve them.
13. Is the Day Now Sixteen Hours Long?
The strongest Bozrah post claims that local time is fifty percent faster and that this produces a sixteen-Earth-hour day.
The arithmetic is internally understandable.
If something proceeds at 1.5 times a reference rate, then:
24 ÷ 1.5 = 16.
So, the sixteen-hour figure is not a random arithmetic mistake.
The problem is the premise.
Earth’s rotation is continuously measured.
The International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service publishes length-of-day and Earth-orientation data.
For August 28, 2026, published Earth-rotation data give a predicted mean solar day of approximately:
24 hours + 0.8069 milliseconds.
The difference between twenty-four hours and sixteen hours is:
eight hours, or 28,800 seconds.
The currently observed variation is around the scale of a millisecond.
Those magnitudes are not remotely comparable.
A change from a twenty-four-hour terrestrial rotation to sixteen hours would be one of the largest and most obvious geophysical changes imaginable.
It would not require a childhood counting mnemonic to uncover it.
14. “People in Old Photographs Looked Older”
The thread also offers old photographs as physical evidence: people supposedly appeared older at younger chronological ages because they had more time in which to age.
Even if one grants the observation that many people in historical photographs appear older than comparably aged people today, the proposed cause does not follow.
There are numerous confounding variables.
Smoking is an obvious example.
CDC data indicate that approximately 42.4 percent of American adults were current smokers in 1965.
Modern research identifies smoking among the risk factors associated with visible skin aging, alongside other environmental influences.
Other factors include:
sun exposure,
occupational conditions,
dental care,
nutrition,
hairstyle,
clothing,
photographic technology,
facial expression conventions,
and cohort expectations.
Thus:
“People sometimes look older in historic photographs”
does not establish:
“physical seconds used to be longer.”
The latter conclusion simply does not follow from the former observation.
15. February 22, 2022
Another poster gives an exact-looking transition date: February 22, 2022.
This is a useful methodological case because precision can create the appearance of measurement.
A date such as 2/22/22 is unusually memorable because it contains strong numerical repetition.
But the relevant scientific questions are:
Was that date predicted before the alleged effect?
What physical quantity was expected to change?
By how much?
According to which instrument?
What baseline had been established?
What observation would have falsified the prediction?
None of that is presented.
Without those elements, attaching a highly salient date to a retrospective impression risks post-hoc pattern selection.
The same poster also predicts major social deterioration and a culminating event in the 2030s.
A prediction becomes scientifically valuable when it is precise enough to fail.
A vague future crisis is much easier to reinterpret after events occur.
16. “Time Does Not Exist”
One of the earliest replies offers a metaphysical explanation: linear past, present, and future are said not to possess real ontological existence, and humanity is supposedly undergoing a transformation in consciousness.
This should be separated from both psychology and physics.
The fact that human beings construct subjective temporal experience does not prove that temporal relations themselves are unreal.
Likewise, relativity’s rejection of simple universal simultaneity does not mean that duration, causal ordering, or proper time disappear.
NIST puts the operational issue helpfully: we do not directly sense “time” as an object; clocks measure intervals separating events.
Scripture likewise presents temporal succession without offering a philosophical theory of absolute Newtonian time.
Genesis says the heavenly lights are:
“for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.”
The Bible recognizes succession, seasons, days, years, generations, waiting, fulfillment, beginning, and end.
It therefore does not naturally support the statement that temporal sequence is simply an illusion produced by consciousness.
That proposition belongs to a philosophical or metaphysical system outside the biblical text.
17. Kali Yuga, Karma, and the “10,000-Year Golden Age”
The thread then blends the altered-time discussion with Karma, Kali Yuga, and a coming ten-thousand-year golden interval.
This is not biblical eschatology.
It belongs to Hindu cosmological traditions.
Classical Hindu chronology commonly presents Kali Yuga as lasting 432,000 human years, within a four-yuga cycle totaling 4,320,000 years. This system is documented in scholarly discussions of Hindu chronology.
Some later Vaishnava traditions discuss a particularly favorable period associated with devotional practice during Kali Yuga. That should not be casually presented as though all Hindu traditions teach one uncontested “mini-Satya Yuga” doctrine. Hindu eschatological and chronological traditions themselves contain interpretive diversity.
More importantly for a biblical examination, the thread is combining two fundamentally different theological structures.
Karmic cyclical cosmology is not simply another vocabulary for biblical resurrection and judgment.
Hebrew and Christian Scripture move through creation, covenant, judgment, resurrection, and consummation rather than an endlessly recurring yuga cycle.
A researcher may compare those systems.
He should not quietly merge them.
18. Matthew 24:22 — “Those Days Shall Be Shortened”
This is the central biblical text behind the paper’s title.
The KJV reads:
“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved:but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.”
Matthew 24:21–22.
The thread treats this as evidence that the rate of physical time itself would accelerate.
But the surrounding passage needs to control the interpretation.
Jesus has been speaking about:
tribulation;
people in Judaea fleeing;
those on housetops and in fields;
pregnancy and nursing;
winter;
the Sabbath;
false Christs and false prophets;
and the survival of human beings through the crisis.
Then comes the statement that “those days” will be shortened.
The Greek verb is κολοβόω — koloboō.
Lexical sources give the sense to cut short, shorten, abridge, or curtail. Its New Testament use is confined to Matthew 24:22 and the parallel Mark 13:20.
That is important.
The verb describes the curtailment of the days or period in question.
It does not itself mean:
accelerate atomic oscillations,
increase the physical rate of seconds,
speed clocks by fifty percent,
or shorten the Earth’s rotational day to sixteen hours.
19. Mark 13 Makes the Context Even Clearer
The parallel passage in Mark reads:
“And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved:
but for the elect’s sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.”
Mark then continues:
“But in those days, after that tribulation…”
The wording strongly favors a straightforward reading:
the period of affliction is limited.
That does not settle every eschatological controversy surrounding the Olivet Discourse.
Christians disagree over whether portions of Matthew 24 primarily concern:
the Roman destruction of Jerusalem,
future end-time tribulation,
both through prophetic typology,
or recurring patterns culminating in the end.
Those debates should be represented fairly.
A preterist may emphasize the first-century Judean crisis.
A futurist may emphasize a future Great Tribulation.
Historicist and idealist approaches differ again.
But none of those interpretive positions requires the phrase “days shortened” to mean seconds run faster.
The physical-time interpretation must therefore be supplied from outside the passage.
It is not demanded by the wording.
20. Revelation 8:12 and the Claimed Sixteen-Hour Day
The second biblical passage appealed to by the Bozrah narrative is Revelation 8:12.
The KJV says:
“And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.”
The important word in the immediate sentence is darkened.
The objects involved are:
the sun,
the moon,
and the stars.
The effect described is upon shining/light.
The passage does not say that Earth’s rotation becomes one-third shorter.
It does not say that twenty-four physical hours become sixteen.
It does not define a new duration for the second.
The phrase:
“and the night likewise”
is particularly important.
The verse describes a reduction affecting the illumination associated with both day and night.
The claim that Revelation 8:12 mathematically reveals the rotation rate of another planet therefore goes far beyond the text.
A literal interpreter may believe a future astronomical event is described.
A symbolic interpreter may understand cosmic imagery as portraying judgment.
Those are legitimate exegetical questions.
But neither interpretation permits us simply to replace:
darkened luminaries
with:
fifty-percent-faster clocks.
21. Was Revelation a “Jesuit Playbook”?
Another poster dismisses Revelation as a Jesuit construction.
This assertion contains a historical confusion worth untangling carefully.
21.1 Revelation existed long before the Jesuits
Papyrus 47 is a Greek manuscript containing material from Revelation. It is dated to the third century.
The Society of Jesus was formally recognized in 1540.
A third-century manuscript predates the Jesuit order by well over a thousand years.
Therefore:
the Jesuits could not have authored the Book of Revelation.
That question is historically closed.
21.2 Where the confusion comes from
There is, however, a real history behind the accusation.
Francisco Ribera was a Jesuit theologian.
A 1591 edition of his commentary on the Apocalypse survives.
Ribera is significant in the history of early-modern futurist interpretation of Revelation.
Modern scholarship recognizes that futurist readings of Revelation have a complex historical development and later became particularly influential in certain forms of premillennialism and dispensationalism.
So we should distinguish three statements:
“Jesuits wrote Revelation.”
False.
“A Jesuit wrote an influential later commentary on Revelation.”
True.
“Therefore every futurist interpretation of Revelation originated with Jesuits.”
Too simplistic.
A commentary written in the sixteenth century is not the same thing as the text being commented upon.
Confusing the two is an anachronism.
22. The Rapture Claim: What Does 1 Thessalonians Actually Say?
The Bozrah narrative eventually claims that at least one rapture has already occurred and that some people were transported from Earth to the present planet.
Before deciding whether that is possible, the relevant biblical passage should be allowed to define its own event.
Paul writes:
“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God:
and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air:and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17.
Notice what Paul actually gives us.
The Lord descends.
The dead in Christ rise.
Living believers are caught up with them.
They meet the Lord.
They remain with the Lord.
What is absent?
There is no duplicate terrestrial planet.
There is no Bozrah destination.
There is no reference to 75,000 light-years.
There is no fifty-percent time differential.
There is no Edomite containment realm.
There is no alternative human anatomy.
Those concepts may be proposed as an additional theory.
They cannot be described as what 1 Thessalonians 4 itself teaches.
23. Has the Resurrection-Associated Gathering Already Occurred?
This raises a deeper biblical difficulty.
The catching up of the living in 1 Thessalonians 4 is not presented as an isolated transportation event.
It is joined directly to:
“the dead in Christ shall rise first.”
That connection matters because the New Testament contains an explicit warning concerning claims that resurrection fulfillment had already occurred.
Paul writes concerning Hymenaeus and Philetus that they had erred:
“saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.”
2 Timothy 2:18.
One should be careful not to equate every unconventional rapture chronology automatically with the exact error Paul condemns.
Nevertheless, any theory claiming that the 1 Thessalonians 4 gathering has already occurred must explain why the resurrection linked directly to it is not correspondingly evident.
Second Thessalonians also places the discussion around:
“the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and … our gathering together unto him.”
Christians legitimately disagree about the rapture’s relationship to tribulation:
pretribulation,
midtribulation,
prewrath,
posttribulation,
and other formulations exist.
But disagreement about sequence does not supply evidence for transportation to an unnamed duplicate planet.
24. The Bozrah Claim
This is where Scripture gives us unusually strong controls.
The later theory says, in substance:
“This planet is Bozrah, not Earth.”
The word Bozrah is unquestionably biblical.
The question is what the Bible itself tells us about it.
Genesis 36 says:
“These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom…”
and later:
“And Bela died, and Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his stead.”
Bozrah is already appearing inside the political and genealogical geography of Edom.
Jeremiah 49 begins the relevant oracle:
“Concerning Edom…”
and later says:
“Bozrah shall become a desolation…”
The chapter continues discussing Edom, Teman, and Bozrah as interconnected locations within the same judgment oracle.
Amos does the same:
“For three transgressions of Edom…”
followed by judgment on Teman and:
“the palaces of Bozrah.”
The pattern is extraordinarily consistent.
Bozrah belongs to Edom.
That much of the later theory is correct.
What does not follow is:
Bozrah therefore means an extraterrestrial duplicate planet.
25. Archaeology and the Historical Bozrah
The biblical geography is independently supported by archaeology.
Excavations at Busayra in southern Jordan uncovered a major fortified administrative and religious center of Iron Age Edom.
The published excavation report describes Busayra as a major city of the Iron Age kingdom of Edom and includes an entire scholarly chapter titled “Bozrah in the Hebrew Scriptures.”
Further archaeological work describes Busayra as the administrative and religious center of Edom.
Scholarly archaeological literature commonly identifies Busayra with ancient Bozrah, although—as good archaeology should acknowledge—the exact ancient identification rests upon cumulative historical and geographical evidence rather than a surviving sign saying “Welcome to biblical Bozrah.”
That nuance is important.
Research should not claim more certainty than the evidence warrants.
But the terrestrial Edomite identification is supported by:
biblical context,
regional geography,
historical reconstruction,
and archaeology.
The extraterrestrial theory supplies none of those independent lines of evidence.
26. Isaiah 34 and Isaiah 63: The Genuine Prophetic Connection
The Bozrah theory is strongest where it notices something real.
Isaiah genuinely connects Bozrah and Edom with divine judgment.
Isaiah 63 famously opens:
“Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah?”
and shortly afterward speaks of:
“the day of vengeance.”
The connection between Bozrah, Edom, and vengeance is therefore genuinely scriptural.
That should be acknowledged rather than dismissed.
But it creates only the following chain:
Bozrah → Edom → divine judgment / vengeance.
The theory inserts several additional links:
Bozrah → future duplicate planet → Edomite prison world → raptured Israelites → fifty-percent faster time → destruction of that planet.
Those additional propositions are not stated in Isaiah.
A theory can begin with a true biblical connection and still become speculative in the steps that follow.
That is precisely why context matters.
27. Ancient Bozrah and “End-Times Bozrah”
Defenders of the planetary interpretation attempt to solve the geographic problem by distinguishing ancient Bozrah from a future cosmic Bozrah.
As an analogy, they may point to biblical names that acquire later symbolic significance.
That interpretive method is not automatically illegitimate.
Scripture itself can reuse earlier events, locations, and persons typologically.
“Babylon,” for example, carries layers of historical and prophetic significance.
The problem is not typology itself.
The problem is demonstrating the typology.
To establish a second cosmic Bozrah, one would need textual evidence showing that the prophetic author intentionally moves beyond historical Edom to an extraterrestrial object.
The passages presently cited do not provide that bridge.
Isaiah says Edom and Bozrah.
Jeremiah says Edom and Bozrah.
Amos says Edom, Teman, and Bozrah.
Genesis places a ruler of Bozrah among the kings of Edom.
No biblical author adds:
“this later Bozrah is a planet.”
The cosmic interpretation is therefore possible only after importing additional information that the text itself does not contain.
That is the difference between exegesis and eisegesis.
Exegesis seeks to draw meaning from the text.
Eisegesis supplies the crucial meaning and then uses words in the text as confirmation.
28. The “Edomite Containment Realm”
The theory becomes still more specific when it describes the alleged planet as a containment realm for a particular Edomite bloodline.
Biblically, Edom’s association with Esau is explicit.
Genesis says:
“Esau, who is Edom.”
Jeremiah likewise connects the judgment of Edom with Esau.
So again, the theory starts from a real biblical relationship.
But the following propositions require separate proof:
- A uniquely identifiable Edomite biological population persists today.
- That population has been transported to or confined upon another world.
- The world is a physical duplicate of Earth.
- Selected Israelites were temporarily transported there.
- God calls that planet Bozrah.
- The planet will be destroyed in a specific future event.
None of those propositions appears in the cited genealogical or prophetic passages.
The presence of biblical vocabulary does not make the connective structure biblical.
The unquoted connective structure is often where the largest speculative leap occurs.
29. The 75,000-Light-Year Claim
The thread gives a strikingly precise distance between the supposed planet and Earth.
Approximately 75,000 light-years sounds scientific because it contains a number and a unit.
But a measured distance requires a method.
How was the number obtained?
Possible astronomical distance methods include:
parallax,
standard candles,
spectroscopic estimates,
redshift under appropriate conditions,
orbital dynamics,
or other calibrated observations.
None is supplied.
There are no coordinates.
No star catalogue comparison.
No parallax series.
No identifiable pulsars.
No spacecraft data.
No description of the Milky Way sky from the supposed new position.
No independently reproducible measurement.
The figure therefore possesses numerical precision without demonstrated measurement.
That rhetorical effect is sometimes called false precision.
A number can sound more evidential than a vague statement even when both arise from the same unsupported assertion.
30. The Anatomy Claim
The same problem affects the claim that human anatomy on the supposed planet differs radically from anatomy on Earth.
An anatomical claim is empirically testable.
One could specify:
which bones differ,
which organs differ,
which dimensions differ,
what population samples demonstrate the difference,
whether medical imaging confirms it,
whether historical anatomical literature shows a discontinuity,
whether genetics differ,
and when the change occurred.
Instead, the anatomical claim is treated as another sign whose supporting material lies elsewhere.
That is not enough for a fact-check.
Until measurable anatomical differences are produced, the claim remains an assertion.
It should neither be accepted nor exaggerated into something the source has not demonstrated.
31. The Self-Sealing Structure of the Bozrah Argument
One of the most important methodological problems appears not in any particular Bible verse but in the way disagreement is handled.
The theory explains why inhabitants supposedly do not notice the anomaly:
they are native to the local conditions.
It then explains skepticism by treating skeptics as agents or “vessels” of untruth.
This creates a self-sealing evidentiary system.
Consider the possible outcomes.
If someone agrees:
confirmation.
If a supposed Earth-transplant agrees:
confirmation.
If native inhabitants disagree:
they are accustomed to local reality.
If clocks look wrong:
confirmation.
If clocks look normal:
the local clocks were built under local conditions.
If skeptics object:
their objection demonstrates deception.
The theory therefore risks becoming resistant to every conceivable negative result.
That is not how strong claims are tested.
A healthy empirical question is:
What observation would show that I am mistaken?
If no possible observation counts against a proposition, the proposition may still function as a worldview or narrative, but it cannot claim strong empirical confirmation.
32. Psychology Without Diagnosing the Posters
It would be inappropriate to diagnose anonymous internet users.
We do not know their identities, medical histories, sincerity, or motives.
What we can examine are the reasoning patterns visible in the discussion.
32.1 Subjective realism
A person experiences something strongly and concludes that the external world must literally possess the same property.
Example:
“Time feels faster”
→
“physical time is faster.”
The first proposition does not establish the second.
32.2 Confirmation bias
Once a person suspects acceleration, unusually fast-feeling days become memorable evidence.
Ordinary days may receive less attention.
32.3 Pattern detection
Humans naturally search for meaningful patterns.
That capacity is extraordinarily useful.
It can also make symmetrical dates, repeating numbers, textual parallels, and coincidental timing feel more causally significant than evidence warrants.
32.4 Narrative coherence
When several ideas become linked—
accelerated time,
prophecy,
technology,
tribulation,
Bozrah,
Edom,
a rapture,
an alternate planet—
each can begin to function as evidence for the others.
The resulting story can feel increasingly coherent even though no single independent test confirms the underlying cosmology.
32.5 False precision
Exact figures such as seven-to-ten percent, fifty percent, sixteen hours, or 75,000 light-years create the impression of measurement.
The appropriate question is always:
What instrument or procedure generated the number?
32.6 Authority borrowing
Scientific terms such as “time dilation” and biblical terms such as “Bozrah,” “elect,” and “day of vengeance” bring legitimate authority with them.
But terminology does not automatically transfer that authority to the new claim being attached to it.
32.7 Belief immunization
When criticism itself is reclassified as evidence of deception, the belief becomes protected from correction.
This is particularly important because Scripture itself repeatedly encourages testing rather than intellectual insulation.
33. Scripture’s Epistemic Standard
Paul writes:
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
Acts praises the Bereans because they:
“searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
Those texts are important because they prevent a false choice between:
believe everything unusual
and
reject everything unusual.
Biblical discernment requires neither gullibility nor reflexive cynicism.
It requires examination.
That means an extraordinary claim should not be rejected merely because it is extraordinary.
But neither should Scripture be used to exempt it from testing.
The burden remains:
What does the passage actually say?
What does the claim add?
What can be independently verified?
What remains interpretation?
What remains speculation?
34. The Thread’s Theological Challenge to Divine Sovereignty
One participant asks, in effect, how someone can believe God is sovereign while also believing that other beings manipulate timelines.
There is a hidden premise in the challenge:
timeline manipulation has already been established as fact.
It has not.
So the theological dilemma is premature.
More broadly, biblical sovereignty does not mean created agents have no secondary causal activity.
Scripture routinely describes kings, armies, storms, human decisions, spiritual beings, and natural events acting within history while God remains sovereign.
The existence of a secondary cause is not itself a contradiction of sovereignty.
The real issue is whether the proposed cause exists.
Acts 17 describes God as having determined times and the bounds of human habitation.
That supports a biblical doctrine of providence.
It does not validate any particular speculative mechanism concerning parallel timelines.
35. What the Skeptics Inside the Thread Get Right
Several skeptical replies make genuinely useful points.
One asks how anyone could know “time itself” was moving faster without an external reference.
Another asks why the measuring clock would not be affected.
Another observes that if every local process changed together, the inhabitant might not detect the alteration in the manner being proposed.
Those are good objections.
But even the skeptical side occasionally uses “common sense” where physics requires more careful definitions.
Real differential elapsed time is possible.
Relativity genuinely predicts that two clocks can disagree after following different trajectories.
The proper correction is therefore not:
“Time can never run differently.”
That would be false.
The correction is:
“A claim of differential elapsed time requires a defined reference frame and an appropriate comparison.”
That is a much stronger scientific answer.
36. What Would a Real Test Look Like?
Suppose we take the strongest claim seriously for the sake of experiment.
How could we test it?
Step One: Define the hypothesis
Do not say merely:
“time is faster.”
Specify:
“Atomic time on this planet advances at ratio X relative to reference Y.”
or:
“Earth rotation relative to cesium time has changed by X.”
Step Two: Establish independent references
Use independently realized frequency standards.
Compare atomic clocks.
Compare terrestrial rotation with atomic time.
Compare astronomical observations with established ephemerides.
Step Three: Establish a baseline
Collect data before proposing the transition if possible.
Historical instrument records are far stronger than remembered childhood counting rates.
Step Four: Quantify uncertainty
A legitimate result needs error bars and measurement uncertainty.
Step Five: Predefine the expected result
If the claim says fifty percent, write that before testing.
Do not reinterpret any deviation afterward as evidence.
Step Six: Replicate independently
Other laboratories should be able to perform the measurement without relying upon the original claimant.
This is especially important because modern clocks can detect extremely small relativistic differences.
A genuine fifty-percent anomaly would be enormous.

After working through the extraordinary claims, it is worth returning to the original question.
Why might modern life genuinely seem faster?
No single cause is necessary.
Several mechanisms can work together.
Aging
Age shows some association with reported passage-of-time acceleration, though the effects are weaker and more variable than popular explanations suggest.
Time pressure
Friedman and Janssen found evidence supporting time pressure as an important factor.
Cognitive load
Higher information-processing demands can alter temporal judgments.
Attention
When attention is consumed by non-temporal tasks, prospective duration can contract subjectively.
Engagement
Task engagement changes experienced passage of time, whether the activity is digital or non-digital.
Motivation
Highly approach-motivated positive states can make time appear to pass faster.
Digital saturation
Smartphones have moved from minority adoption to near ubiquity during the exact historical window frequently mentioned in discussions of modern temporal acceleration.
None of this proves that phones are the sole explanation.
But together, the literature provides a substantial body of mechanisms capable of explaining accelerated experienced time without invoking a change in the physical duration of the second.

40. Conclusion: What Is True, What Is Possible, and What Has Been Added
The thread is valuable because it demonstrates how an argument can evolve.
It begins with something ordinary and probably true:
many people genuinely feel that time is passing faster.
Psychology provides several mechanisms capable of producing that experience.
Age plays some role.
Attention matters.
Memory matters.
Time pressure matters.
Cognitive workload matters.
Motivation matters.
Engagement matters.
Digital behavior may matter.
None of those findings requires us to deny the experience.
They help explain it.
The thread then crosses an evidentiary boundary.
A subjective experience becomes a claim about external physical time.
At that point, instruments are required.
The proposed Mississippi test does not supply them.
Atomic standards, relativistic clock comparisons, astronomical observations, and Earth-rotation data do.
Those measurements do not show anything resembling a fifty-percent acceleration of terrestrial physical time.
The discussion then crosses another boundary—from physics into prophecy.
Here again, the issue is not whether Scripture contains unusual things.

Amos truly links Edom, Teman, and Bozrah.
The problem begins when propositions that Scripture does not say are inserted between propositions that Scripture does say.
The Bible says:

The theory says:
another planet.
The Bible says:
Edom.
The theory says:
extraterrestrial bloodline containment.
The Bible says:
days shortened.
The theory says:
physical seconds running fifty percent faster.
The Bible says:
a third of the luminaries are darkened.
The theory says:
a sixteen-hour rotation.
The Bible says:
caught up to meet the Lord.
The theory says:
transported to a duplicate world approximately 75,000 light-years from Earth.
Those additions are the point at which the theory ceases to be simply “what the Bible says.”
They may be proposed as speculative interpretation.
They cannot honestly be presented as explicit revelation contained in the cited passages.
The historical claims require the same discipline.
There really was a Jesuit named Francisco Ribera who wrote a Revelation commentary.
But a third-century manuscript of Revelation exists, while the Society of Jesus did not exist until the sixteenth century.
The real historical fact should therefore be retained.
The exaggerated conclusion should be discarded.
That is the larger lesson of the thread.
Good discernment does not require rejecting everything.
It requires learning to say:
this part is supported;
this part is plausible;
this part is interpretation;
this part is speculation;
this part contradicts available evidence;
and
this part simply is not in the text.
That is harder than either blind belief or blind dismissal.
It is also a better path to truth.
The Berean standard remains appropriate:
“they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
And Paul’s instruction is equally fitting:
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
The correct response to an extraordinary theory is therefore not fear, mockery, or automatic acceptance.
It is examination.
Take the observation seriously.
Define the claim carefully.
Demand a measurement where measurement is possible.
Distinguish psychology from physics.
Distinguish later commentary from ancient text.
Distinguish Scripture from interpretations placed upon Scripture.
And where evidence stops, say that it stops.
That is not hostility toward mystery.
It is intellectual honesty.

Research Note
This investigation distinguishes between the authenticity of an experience and the accuracy of an explanation for that experience. A poster may sincerely perceive something unusual without the proposed cosmological explanation being correct. Conversely, identifying psychological mechanisms does not prove that every unusual experience is “merely imagination.” Each claim must be evaluated according to the evidence appropriate to that claim.
The objective is neither ridicule nor credulity.
It is discernment.
