Conspiracy discussions are difficult to evaluate well because they rarely consist entirely of fiction or entirely of fact. More often, documented events, unresolved questions, historical scandals, speculative interpretations, genuine institutional misconduct, folklore, theology, coincidence, and unsupported accusations appear beside one another. The resulting narrative can become persuasive precisely because some of its component parts are demonstrably true.

This paper examines a September 2026 thread from 4chan’s paranormal board, /x/, in which anonymous users exchange theories concerning:

  • political assassination
  • covert intelligence programs

  • occultism
  • 9/11
  • Jeffrey Epstein
  • COVID-19
  • race and ancestry
  • media manipulation

and spiritual warfare.

The purpose is neither to ridicule the posters nor to defend institutional authority by default. Instead, each significant claim is separated into what can be historically established, what remains uncertain, what is speculative, what methodological assumptions are being made, what psychological processes may make the claim compelling, and—where Scripture is invoked—what the biblical text actually says.

The central finding is that the thread contains a small but important core of documented realities, including MKULTRA, Jeffrey Epstein’s exploitation network, government secrecy, intelligence experimentation, environmental disaster, serious cybersecurity incidents, and genuine spiritual themes recognized by Scripture. Around those anchors, however, many posts construct much larger causal narratives without supplying evidence sufficient to bridge the gap between the documented event and the proposed explanation. The most recurrent pattern can be described simply: a true anchor is followed by an unsupported escalation.

Biblically, the problem is not that Scripture rejects the existence of conspiracy or spiritual evil. It plainly recognizes both. The problem is epistemological. Scripture simultaneously warns against deception, false witness, premature judgment, divination, slander, and confidence beyond available testimony.

Proverbs therefore offers an unusually appropriate rule for examining a thread such as this:

“He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him,”

followed shortly by,

“He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.”

The appropriate response to conspiracy culture, then, is neither blind trust nor reflexive disbelief. It is disciplined discernment.

Introduction: Why This Thread Is Worth Taking Seriously

The thread examined here appeared on 4chan’s /x/ board under a broad invitation to post especially strange or interesting conspiracy theories. What followed was not a unified manifesto. It was an evolving conversation in which many anonymous participants contributed unrelated or loosely connected ideas. The resulting collection moves from Kurt Cobain to secret Moon missions, from Hurricane Katrina to ancient goddesses, from orphan trains to 9/11 imagery, from chakras to Dulce Base, from Epstein to COVID-19, from the CIA and LSD to Mesopotamian gods, from alternative physics to artificial intelligence, and finally into theories of demonic social control.

That variety presents an immediate methodological problem. It would be easy to label the entire conversation “conspiracy theory” and stop there. That would be intellectually lazy.

Some conspiracies really happen.

The CIA really conducted MKULTRA experiments.

Jeffrey Epstein really operated an extensive system of sexual exploitation.

Corporations really conceal wrongdoing.

Intelligence agencies really conduct influence operations.

Governments really classify information.

Institutions sometimes lie, make catastrophic mistakes, protect themselves, manipulate narratives, or destroy evidence.

Recognizing those realities is not irrational. In fact, historical literacy demands it.

The opposite mistake, however, is equally serious: because some conspiracies are real, one begins treating the existence of conspiracy in general as evidence for a particular conspiracy. MKULTRA then becomes indirect proof of every mind-control allegation. Epstein becomes indirect proof of every celebrity-abuse allegation. A government lie becomes proof that another unrelated government statement must also be false.

This paper rejects both shortcuts.

Its governing principle is close to the research philosophy already associated with VCG: evidence before opinion; context before commentary; fact separated from interpretation, speculation, and rhetoric; uncertainty stated openly; and Scripture examined in its own context rather than recruited after the fact to sanctify a preferred conclusion.

That approach also fits 1 Thessalonians 5:21:

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”

“Prove” here should not be reduced to modern laboratory proof alone.

The larger biblical principle is testing, examining, discerning, and retaining what survives examination.

That is what this paper attempts to do.

A Note on Method

Every major claim in the thread is approached through several distinct questions.

First comes history: what can actually be documented?

Second comes methodology: does the evidence supplied establish the conclusion being drawn?

Third comes psychology: why might this kind of explanation feel compelling, without assuming that the person proposing it is irrational or mentally unwell?

Fourth comes interpretation: if the facts are real, are there competing explanations?

Finally comes Scripture when a biblical claim is made: what does the text say, and what has been added to it?

These categories must not be collapsed.

A historical claim cannot be proved merely by finding a Bible verse that sounds similar.

A theological claim cannot be disproved merely because it is difficult to measure scientifically.

A psychological explanation for why someone believes something does not prove the belief false.

And an official explanation does not become true merely because it is official.

The evidentiary classification used throughout the paper is therefore deliberately modest. A claim may be well established, strongly supported, plausible but unproved, speculative, contradicted by stronger evidence, or primarily theological/metaphysical. Those categories describe the status of the evidence, not the intelligence or character of the person making the claim.

A separate biblical question then asks whether Scripture explicitly teaches, permits, does not address, or contradicts the proposition.

This distinction matters because “possible” is not the same word as “biblical.”

Why Conspiracy Narratives Can Be Persuasive

Before examining individual posts, it is useful to understand something about conspiracy belief itself.

Research does not support the simplistic idea that people accept conspiracy explanations because they are merely stupid, gullible, or mentally ill. A major review by Karen Douglas and colleagues organized the motives associated with conspiracy belief into three broad families: epistemic motives, involving the desire to understand confusing events; existential motives, involving security and control; and social motives, involving identity, status, and the protection of valued groups. The authors also cautioned that conspiracy beliefs do not necessarily succeed in satisfying those motives.

A much larger 2025 meta-analysis synthesized 971 effect sizes from 279 independent studies involving more than 137,000 participants. It found statistically significant but generally modest associations between conspiracy belief and epistemic, existential, and social motives. The effects varied considerably between studies, and experimental effects were often weaker than correlational ones. In other words, there is no single “conspiracy personality.”

Another line of research concerns pattern perception. Experiments have found relationships between seeing meaningful patterns in ambiguous or random material and endorsing conspiracy or supernatural interpretations. Importantly, the researchers do not argue that pattern detection itself is defective. Humans need pattern recognition to survive and reason. Nor do they deny that genuine conspiracies occur. The problem arises when a perceived pattern is accepted as causal before independent evidence verifies the connection.

That distinction will appear repeatedly in this paper.

Suppose A knew B.

B financed C.

C attended an event with D.

D was later accused of wrongdoing.

There is now a pattern.

But what has actually been proved?

Perhaps only that four people were connected.

The network becomes a criminal conspiracy only when evidence establishes criminal coordination.

This is the difference between mapping relationships and proving culpability.

1. Post 42904802: Kurt Cobain Was Murdered

The thread opens quickly with the familiar theory that Kurt Cobain did not die by suicide but was murdered.

There are several reasons the theory has persisted. Cobain’s death involved celebrity, drug use, a turbulent marriage, disputed recollections, unusual personalities, emotionally charged documentaries, and lingering disagreement among independent commentators. When an unexpected death involves a famous person, motive can easily be imagined for multiple parties.

But motive is not homicide evidence.

Seattle Police revisited aspects of the case in 2014 when previously undeveloped photographs were processed. According to the department, a cold-case detective examined the full investigative record and concluded that the new photographs provided no basis for reopening the case. Seattle Police continues to classify the death as suicide.

That does not mean a police finding should be treated as infallible. Police departments can make mistakes. Forensic interpretations can change. A responsible investigator should therefore ask what evidence would overturn the official conclusion.

That would require affirmative evidence: independently authenticated communications planning a killing, reliable forensic evidence incompatible with suicide, credible eyewitness testimony, a confession corroborated by facts not publicly known, or comparable material.

The weaker form of the conspiracy argument instead accumulates suspicious behavior, disliked personalities, conflicting statements, and apparent motive. Those items can justify further questions. They do not independently establish murder.

This becomes especially important when identifiable persons are accused.

Exodus 23:1 states:

“Thou shalt not raise a false report.”

And Deuteronomy 19:15 gives ancient Israel a demanding judicial principle:

“One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity…”

The exact legal procedure belonged to Israel’s covenantal judicial system, but the prudential principle is unmistakable: grave accusations require adequate testimony.

The correct conclusion is therefore not

“murder is impossible.”

It is that the murder allegation has not been demonstrated by evidence sufficient to displace the established forensic conclusion.

2. Post 42904810: A Secret Crewed Moon Program Before Apollo

Another early claim proposes that the United States reached the Moon years before the publicly acknowledged Apollo missions and concealed the earlier program. The thread later connects this with skepticism about Apollo computing power.

The difficulty here is the extraordinary scale of the proposed hidden program.

A crewed lunar mission requires:

  • launch hardware
  • propulsion
  • tracking
  • navigation
  • life support
  • communications
  • re-entry capability
  • ground infrastructure
  • engineering personnel
  • manufacturing
  • testing

and a launch signature observable well beyond the immediate participants.

The theory could be investigated. One would look for authenticated launch records, independent tracking data, earlier lunar hardware, telemetry, procurement records, photographs with verified provenance, engineering documentation, or testimony from people whose involvement can be independently confirmed.

The thread does not supply such evidence.

Meanwhile, physical traces associated with the Apollo program remain observable. Lunar laser-ranging experiments continue to use retroreflector arrays emplaced during Apollo missions, and observatories in several countries participate in laser ranging to the Moon. NASA and JPL describe the Apollo 11, 14, and 15 arrays and the continuing measurements made from Earth.

Retroreflectors alone are not a logically exclusive proof of human presence; the Soviet Union also placed reflectors on the Moon robotically. They are, however, one part of a much larger physical evidentiary record and directly contradict the idea that there is simply nothing independently measurable at documented Apollo sites.

The computer objection is similarly weak. The Apollo Guidance Computer was extraordinarily limited by modern standards, with roughly 2,048 words of erasable memory and 36,864 words of fixed memory. But this comparison becomes misleading when modern general-purpose computing expectations are projected backward onto a specialized embedded guidance system. Its software and hardware were designed for a narrow set of real-time navigation and control functions rather than web browsing, video processing, machine learning, or modern operating systems.

“An iPhone is more powerful”

is true.

“Therefore Apollo navigation was impossible”

does not follow.

Scripture itself has nothing to say about the date of humanity’s first lunar landing. Turning the matter into Christian doctrine would therefore exceed the text.

3. Post 42904848: The Murphy Oil Spill Was Deliberately Engineered

The Murphy Oil claim is instructive because its factual foundation is substantial.

During Hurricane Katrina, floodwaters damaged Murphy Oil infrastructure in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. EPA documentation records a major crude-oil release that contaminated a large residential area and required extensive cleanup.

So a person beginning with

“there was a devastating oil spill around Katrina”

is not spreading fantasy.

The theory begins when aftermath is converted into motive and motive into causation. Property lost value. Residents suffered. Cleanup and redevelopment produced winners and losers. From this, the thread suggests that the disaster itself may have been engineered to obtain land cheaply.

That is possible in the abstract. People have deliberately damaged property for economic gain throughout history.

But possibility is not evidence.

To establish deliberate sabotage one would need evidence of intentional structural weakening, advance planning, coordinated purchasing, suspicious pre-storm communications, insider testimony, abnormal mechanical intervention, or a comparable evidentiary bridge.

The EPA attributes the release to Hurricane Katrina flooding and damage to the storage tank.

A later beneficiary does not automatically become the cause of the event from which he benefited.

Otherwise almost every disaster could generate thousands of alleged perpetrators.

This is the classic danger of reasoning backward from motive: someone benefited; therefore someone caused it.

Benefits deserve investigation.

They do not complete the investigation.

4. Post 42904931: Lilith, Inanna, Ishtar, Astarte, and the “Divine Mother”

The thread next enters comparative religion, connecting:

  • Lilith
  • Inanna
  • Ishtar
  • Astarte

and related female figures and then giving the resulting composite being spiritual significance.

There is genuine historical material underneath this.

Inanna and Ishtar belong to the Mesopotamian religious world and are closely connected across Sumerian and later Semitic traditions. Astarte is a Northwest Semitic goddess with historical connections to the broader Ishtar tradition. Older comparative scholarship explicitly recognized correspondences between Ishtar and Astarte.

Lilith is different. The later Lilith familiar from Jewish folklore developed through traditions concerning night demons and expanded substantially in post-biblical literature. The famous notion of Lilith as Adam’s first wife is later folklore, not the narrative presented in Genesis.

So, the thread is doing something common in modern esotericism: historically related traditions, partially analogous beings, and much later folklore are combined into a single metaphysical identity.

That may be an interesting comparative interpretation.

It is not the same thing as establishing that these names refer to one literal supernatural individual.

The biblical issue is clearer.

Genesis begins not with a divine mother beside God but:

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

The creation narrative gives no female deity a co-creative role alongside the LORD. Whatever historical continuities exist between ancient Near Eastern goddess traditions, treating such a being as humanity’s proper spiritual mother is not biblical theology.

That conclusion comes from the text, not from denying that the ancient goddess traditions existed.

5. Post 42904959: Orphan Trains, Cabbage Patches, and a Hidden Population Reset

The thread then combines photographs of children, orphan trains, kindergarten/garden language, cabbage-patch folklore, and “reset” imagery into the suggestion that populations were artificially regenerated after an earlier catastrophe.

There is again a real historical anchor.

The orphan-train movement existed. From approximately 1854 to 1929, an estimated 250,000 orphaned, abandoned, or homeless children were transported from crowded eastern cities to communities elsewhere in the United States. Charles Loring Brace and the Children’s Aid Society were central to the movement. It is a complicated history containing humanitarian intention, social engineering, family separation, exploitation in some placements, and very different experiences from child to child.

None of that requires a recently depopulated civilization.

Large numbers of impoverished and displaced children are unfortunately explicable within the documented conditions of nineteenth-century:

  • urbanization
  • migration
  • disease
  • family disruption
  • poverty

and inadequate welfare institutions.

The cabbage-patch connection is even weaker. Folklore and euphemistic stories about where babies come from are not biological records.

Later in the thread another poster attempts to remember a biblical passage concerning babies coming from a cabbage patch and cannot locate it. The reason is simple: no such doctrine is found in Genesis.

Genesis states:

“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground…”

The biblical creation account may be interpreted in different ways regarding chronology and genre, but it cannot responsibly be cited as support for cabbage-patch human cultivation.

This is a good example of memory contamination. Once an arresting theory has been repeated enough, the mind may begin to experience familiarity as though it were recollection.

That is one reason chapter-and-verse verification matters.

6. Post 42904986: Predictive Programming and Pre-9/11 Imagery

One of the thread’s image compilations collects media released before September 11, 2001 that appears to contain planes, towers, explosions, the numbers 9 and 11, or other motifs that seem retrospectively prophetic.

Some individual examples may indeed be strange.

The methodological question, however, is not whether striking examples can be found. It is what denominator they came from.

Before September 2001, Western culture had already produced millions of:

  • advertisements
  • television episodes
  • album covers
  • films
  • comic panels
  • magazine illustrations
  • logos
  • photographs
  • jokes
  • games

and fictional depictions of New York.

If one searches that enormous cultural archive after a world-changing event for:

  • planes
  • skyscrapers
  • fire
  • terrorism
  • explosions
  • 9s
  • 11s
  • twins
  • towers
  • catastrophe

some remarkable-looking matches are mathematically unsurprising.

A persuasive test would require criteria established before examining the corpus.

How many images count?

What degree of resemblance is required?

How many non-matches exist?

How frequently did the same motifs occur in ordinary pre-9/11 media?

Would independent coders select the same images without knowing the hypothesis?

Without those controls, the process is vulnerable to the “Texas sharpshooter” problem: observe where the shots landed and then draw the target around the cluster.

Research concerning illusory pattern perception helps explain why such montages can feel powerful without implying that the viewer is irrational. Human cognition is built to connect meaningful signals. The challenge is distinguishing genuine signal from retrospectively selected coincidence.

None of this proves that no one possessed advance intelligence concerning al-Qaeda. U.S. institutions demonstrably possessed threat information before the attacks.

It means that a montage of symbolic similarities does not establish that entertainment producers collectively possessed foreknowledge.

7. Post 42905001: The Fall of Man as a Chakra or Energy-System Malfunction

The thread next interprets the Fall of Man through an energetic anatomy involving chakras, spiritual ports, frequencies, and altered human energetic capacity.

Here the distinction between biblical text and esoteric interpretation becomes decisive.

Genesis describes command, temptation, deception, disobedience, shame, judgment, alienation, toil, and death.

It does not describe chakras.

It does not describe energy throttling.

It does not describe spiritual bandwidth ports.

One may attempt to construct an esoteric interpretation in which biblical events correspond to subtle-energy anatomy, but the resulting system must be identified as an interpretation imported from another tradition.

Even the familiar Western rainbow-colored chakra chart is historically more complicated than many people assume. Research within the Western esoteric tradition itself traces the standardized seven-chakra rainbow system through nineteenth- and twentieth-century Theosophy and later Western reinterpretations. Associations with nerve plexuses, endocrine glands, and fixed rainbow colors accumulated over time rather than arriving as one unchanged ancient anatomical map.

That does not prove all chakra traditions false.

It proves that the specific modern diagram should not be smuggled into Genesis and then presented as something Moses plainly taught.

The biblical Fall is fundamentally moral and relational.

Any energetic theory is an additional metaphysical proposal.

8. Post 42905004: Dulce Base and the Thomas Castello/Costello Story

The Dulce Base theory alleges a secret underground facility involving military personnel, nonhuman beings, genetic experimentation, and a supposed insider often identified as Thomas Castello or Costello.

The critical word here is provenance.

Secret underground facilities are technologically possible. Governments have constructed hardened underground installations. Classified programs exist.

Therefore, “an underground base could exist” is not an absurd statement.

But Dulce is a specific claim involving specific alleged activities.

For that claim, what is needed is authenticated documentation: employment records tied to a verifiable person; financial or procurement evidence; geological or infrastructure evidence; original photographs with chain of custody; utility demand; independently corroborated witnesses; building plans; transportation records; or physical artifacts whose provenance can be tested.

The familiar Dulce material largely circulates as retold testimony, photocopied documents, anonymous or difficult-to-authenticate accounts, and later reproductions.

That does not prove Dulce false.

It means the evidentiary burden has not been met.

Repeated copies of one allegation are not multiple witnesses.

Ten websites reproducing the same unsourced document remain one unsourced document.

9. Post 42905009: UFOs Are Demons or Interdimensional Spirits

The thread then proposes that supposed extraterrestrials are actually spiritual or demonic beings.

A Christian analysis needs more nuance here than either materialist dismissal or automatic spiritual identification.

Scripture certainly teaches the existence of nonhuman spiritual beings.

It teaches angels.

It teaches evil spirits.

It teaches spiritual deception.

Paul writes that:

“Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”

And Ephesians describes conflict

“against principalities, against powers”

and

“spiritual wickedness in high places.”

So, the category spiritual deception is biblical.

But Scripture does not say:

“Every UFO is a demon.”

“Every alleged alien encounter is demonic.”

“Every unexplained light in the atmosphere is a fallen angel.”

A UAP is, at minimum, something not yet identified within the available observation. Individual reports may ultimately involve aircraft, balloons, astronomical objects, drones, sensor artifacts, hoaxes, classified technology, misperception, or unresolved phenomena.

Spiritual interpretation may be considered in particular cases if independently warranted.

It cannot simply be assigned universally because Scripture says demons exist.

A biblical ontology supplies possible categories.

It does not identify each modern anomaly for us.

10. Post 42905033: The False-Light Reincarnation Soul Trap

One of the thread’s more explicitly spiritual theories claims that after death souls encounter a deceptive light, are manipulated into reincarnation, have memories erased, and are recycled through Earth in a form of spiritual farming. The theory is combined with ideas about telepathy and the artificial introduction of spoken languages.

Some proponents appeal to 2 Corinthians 11:14:

“And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”

The verse is real.

The proposed application is not its context.

Paul is warning the Corinthians about false apostles and deceptive workers who outwardly resemble servants of righteousness. The passage teaches the general reality of deceptive appearance. It does not describe a near-death tunnel, memory wipe, reincarnation apparatus, or planetary soul-harvesting mechanism.

The reincarnation element encounters a much more direct biblical difficulty:

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” — Hebrews 9:27

Within the New Testament’s theological framework, the expected sequence is:

  • death
  • judgment
  • resurrection
  • eternal destiny

—not repeated earthly incarnation.

The language claim conflicts just as directly with Genesis 11. The text says that the LORD confounded humanity’s language and scattered the population from Babel.

Whatever one thinks historically or linguistically about Babel, a specifically biblical argument cannot replace the LORD with extraterrestrial agents and still claim merely to be reading Genesis.

The theory may be Gnostic or esoteric.

It is not the doctrine presented in the biblical text.

11. Post 42905039: WTC 7 and Jeffrey Epstein

This post joins two subjects that deserve serious examination precisely because both contain genuine reasons for public distrust.

WTC 7

World Trade Center Building 7 collapsed on the afternoon of September 11 despite not being struck by an aircraft. Government offices occupied portions of the building. Those are facts.

The thread infers deliberate demolition, partly because sensitive tenants were present and because the collapse looks unusual.

NIST’s final investigation reached a different conclusion. Its modeling attributed the initiating failure to long-duration uncontrolled fires, thermal expansion of floor systems, the loss of support around Column 79, cascading floor failures, and progressive structural collapse. NIST also evaluated the hypothesis that explosives or fuel-oil fires caused the collapse and reported that its evidence did not support those alternatives.

That does not place NIST beyond criticism.

Models have assumptions.

Engineering conclusions can be challenged.

But a challenge has to engage the structural evidence: temperatures, connections, column behavior, floor geometry, timing, observed deformation, and competing simulations.

“The building housed government offices”

establishes motive one could hypothesize.

It does not establish demolition.

Epstein

The Epstein portion begins from a much stronger criminal reality.

The 2019 federal indictment alleged that Jeffrey Epstein sexually exploited dozens of underage girls, some as young as fourteen, and that employees and associates helped facilitate the system. It also alleged that victims were sometimes paid to recruit other girls.

Because Epstein died before the 2019 federal charges went to trial, the indictment must be described accurately as allegations rather than as a trial verdict on each count. But the broader history of Epstein’s prior conviction and documented abuse means that organized exploitation in elite social environments is not a fantasy category.

This matters.

It would be irresponsible to dismiss concerns about elite abuse merely because similar claims appear in conspiracy forums.

It would be equally irresponsible to infer that everyone in Epstein’s contact network participated in abuse.

A flight log proves travel.

An address book proves contact information.

A photograph proves physical presence at a moment.

A meeting proves a meeting.

None of those facts alone proves sexual abuse, trafficking, blackmail, or intelligence service membership.

The intelligence-blackmail hypothesis is therefore a separate question from Epstein’s abuse.

It requires separate evidence.

That is the distinction between taking the scandal seriously and allowing the scandal to become an unlimited accusation generator.

12. Post 42905045: Jodi Arias, COVID-19, and a Jewish Ruling Bloodline

This post combines three unrelated propositions, which should immediately warn us against letting emotional force transfer between them.

Jodi Arias

The claim that the Arias murder was essentially staged conflicts with an extensive judicial record.
